Press Release
Private Utility Company Creates Greenest Community in Canada
MDI Utility Corp… Taking ‘Zero Waste’ and ‘Leave No Trace’ to the Next Level.

Regina SK, October 19, 2016: MDI Utility Corp, owned and operated by Jaimey Midtdal, has combined recycled water and a carbon capturing willow farm to create what will be the greenest community in Canada. Noting a lack of affordable housing in southern Saskatchewan and full-to-capacity lagoon systems in established communities, Midtdal knew that someone had to take action. The community of Tanglewood, located roughly 15 minutes east of Regina, SK, will house 80 new families when complete, and is the first of many communities the new utility company plans to service. Three bed, two bath homes are now pre-selling, starting in the mid -200s.

After years of persevering through local legislation and red tape, MDI Utility has finally begun construction of their premier showcase of the combined technology. Their Purple Piping Initiative ultimately eliminates unnecessary use of potable water by using recycled water to flush residential toilets, irrigate lawns, and supply fire hydrants. By using recycled water, MDI Utility will be pulling less water from the existing fresh water reserves, conserving those resources for future generations. The treatment system, which is nearing completion, produces ISO Swiss Standard water: the highest standard for recycled water in the world. The nutrient rich recycled water created by the treatment facility, is used to irrigate and fertilize a carbon capturing willow farm.

Willow trees are known for their rapid growth and carbon capturing properties. MDI Utility’s willow farm can be harvested every three years, and harvested plants re-sprout on their own, so there is no need to replant. The harvested trees, along with the community’s garbage collection, will produce more than enough energy to fuel the entire community. The combination of recycled water and carbon capturing renewable energy system will render Tanglewood’s carbon footprint neutral.

MDI Utility’s vision is to retrofit their technology to service rural and water-scarce communities across Canada. They encourage citizens to take responsibility for their carbon footprint by encouraging their local representatives to make the switch to green utility services. More information about the services they provide, as well as contact information, can be found at www.mdiutility.com.
